About This Series

Ripping paper is one of my preferred ways of making collage. I begin by tearing pages, photographs, and fragments of text from magazines and newspapers, then intuitively arranging them until a narrative starts to emerge. Created at the American Academy in Rome in September 2025, this series continues a body of work I began in 2016. In this latest version, I used locally sourced Italian magazines and European newspapers, allowing the culture and visual language of Rome to become part of the work itself.

The original series began as a commentary on the fashion industry's manipulation of women's images in the service of selling "whatever"; it has now expanded to encompass political and social observations, as well as whatever thoughts, emotions, or questions are occupying me at the moment.
