Collage is the art form that comes most naturally to me. When I start a collage, I begin with torn paper – sometimes using body parts from fashion magazines, or brightly colored abstract forms from architecture or design magazines. This is how a story begins. Then, adding bits of text from newspapers is usually where I go next. This series is especially weird, cheeky and sarcastic, with each character easily coming to life one after another.
I completed these works within a short few short months here at my West Chelsea art studio. They have a particularly dark and kooky sense with names that came quickly to me. I’m especially fond of Leisure Time, Baby Sauce, and King of Sweden, but all have the same look and feel that make the pieces work well as a collection.
