Suckers and Suckulents
About This Series
These six works were made for a group show in Lisbon, Portugal in 2017. Candy Plant (No. 1-4) were created simultaneously, using a favorite color palette, and Olive and Earth (No. 1-2) were also created in tandem. These interrelated series both use a compositional theme I frequently return to, a plant-like growth emerging from a dark, organic base, rooted at the painting’s lower half.
I like the ideas of growth and movement. These pieces celebrate transformation, and the power of art to lift us. The bright candy plants are joyful, whereas the olive plants are earthy and grounded, but both are hopeful and full of possibility.
